Matty Powell recently took to the banks of the Gloucester Canal for the Sensas Challenge, where he was fishing for Team Wales.
Here’s how he got on:
“Going into the event, the team was feeling confident after a couple of good practice days, learning lots and more importantly how to keep fish going into the net.
Day 1
“I drew peg 707 at Slimbridge, which isn’t a brilliant draw, plus the conditions were horrendous. The fishing was tough, but I managed a roach, perch and bream on my long line, feeding a 50/50 mix of groundbait and leam, for a total of 1kg 320g and second in my section.
Day 2
“This time the drawbag was kind to me, putting me on a rocketship in peg 47 at Hempstead. I’ve only fished one line all day, picking up two bream and three skimmers, all of which were caught on double bloodworm tipped with a dead pinkie over my
faithful 50/50 groundbait and leam mix. I put 4kg 380g on the scales which gave me a section win.
“Our team finished a remarkable 5th overall, and on a personal note, I finished 8th out of the 165 angler field which I’m made up with.
I must shout out fellow teammate Ian Leach who’s picked up individual bronze – a cracking result!”
