A double header weekend, starting on Saturday with the “F1” big weight venue that is Tunnel Barn Farm, Shrewley, nr Warwick for MMT qualifier number 22. A venue that could significantly change the leader board for the 24 places that are up for grabs in the accumulator table to fish a match on finals day to decide who will be the first of the 25 qualifiers (YES, 25 qualifiers) to fish the 2020 Final, as well as providing finalist number 22 for this year’s final. The weather forecasters had got it right with the very high, blustery winds but, these did not put the fish off from feeding with 32 weights over the ton, including the top 6 Individuals with 200lbs plus.
Topping these weights and gaining his place in this year’s final was 20 year old Kristian Jones (Tricast/RW Floats). Drawn on Extension Pool Peg – 22, with the blustery wind coming into his face, Kristian fished Caster shallow at 7 metres for the majority of the match, getting through 6 pints of caster in the process whilst occasionally switching to his margin with pellet while he re-primed his caster line to net F1’s and Carp to 6lbs for a winning weight of 264lbs 11ozs. Kristian also books a place in the Maver British Pole Championships on August 18th, 2019 at Maver Dynamite Hayfield Lakes.
Second in the 200 plus club was Paul Holland (Guru). Paul drew New Pool Peg – 44 and fished maggot down his edge and at 6 metres shallow to land 239lbs 10 ozs of F1’s and Carp to 4lbs. He also books a place in the Maver British Pole Championships.
The third member of the 200 plus club was 21 year old Sam Collett (Guru/Dynamite Baits). Sam drew New Pool Peg – 30 where he opted to concentrate straight away on his edge swims feeding groundbait and maggot to finish the match with F1’s and Carp to 8lbs for weight of 218lbs 7ozs and also book his place in the Maver British Pole Championships.
