After the previous weeks record temperatures of 35 degrees celsius, where this venue had produced an unbelievable 477lbs for Jon Arthur in The UK Angling Championships, overnight low pressure had moved in bringing with it leaden skies and forecast for blustery winds, light rain and drizzle and a temperature drop of 12 degrees which some thought would be cause for a lower weight match, only time would tell.
A disappointing turnout of 69 had purchased tickets for this qualifier and with Beastie, Yew, Elm, Cedar and Oak lakes being used, each angler had plenty of room and despite the change in conditions there was potential for some extremely good weights and the venue didn’t disappoint as can be seen from the results. Winner and qualifier number 6 through to his fourth final on September 4th 2021 was Maver UK sponsored angler Sam Brown. Sam drew Cedar peg 18 and fished down his edge for the whole match, during which time he had 5 Carp in 8 minutes for 40lb, feeding micro pellets and corn regularly and alternating corn and worm on the hook to net Carp, Barbel and F1’s to 12lb for a superb weight of 338lbs 2ozs.
Second place went to Tom Edwards, Daiwa who is no stranger to this venue and knows it very well. Tom drew Oak peg 11, setting out his stall to fish hard pellets short with micros and dead maggots down his edge for a final weight of 326lbs 11ozs made up of Carp to 12lbs.
Third was Preston Innovations backed angler Andy Power. Drawn on Beastie peg 9 he fished Caster shallow to net 283lbs 5ozs of Carp to 10lbs
4th – Matt Arnold – (Spalding, Lincs) – Oak peg 26 – 279lbs 15ozs
5th – Matt Wiles – (East Harling, Norfolk) – Oak peg 30 – 253lbs 10ozs
6th – Rob Goodson – (Deeping St James) – Oak peg 22 – 248lbs 2 ozs
